We have produced single vineyard Pinot Noir from the lovely Palmer Creek Vineyard in the Eola-Amity Hills of Oregon since our first year. Palmer Creek is meticulously tended by owners Janet and Larry Richards. We have long requested additional grapes from Palmer Creek, and in 2009 we began purchasing a block of pommard clone pinot noir in addition to the 777 clone we were previously getting. For our Palmer Creek fans, this wine has a bit more heft and is rounder than prior vintages owing to the pommard clone.
Dad: Cherry aroma with intense cherry flavors, plums, raspberries and graham crackers. Minerals on the finish.
Fille: This year's Palmer Creek is like listening to a Haydn symphony- it is elegant, complex, but ties together in a thematic way. The red fruit and cherry nose unfolds to a similar flavor profile, which sticks around on the graceful, lingering finish. It would pair beautifully with salmon or heavier fish as well as poultry. This is one that will benefit from decanting or cellaring for 1-3 years, which will further accentuate its pretty finesse.
